SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail safety system, that is used to confirm whether an email message is sent by an official server. Employing SPF protection for a domain will stop the counterfeiting of emails created with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this feature for a domain name makes a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP addresses of the servers that are permitted to send emails from mail boxes using the domain. The moment this record propagates globally, it will exist on all DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Any time some email message is sent, the initial DNS server it uses tests if it comes from an official server. When it does, it's forwarded to the destination address, but if it does not originate from a server listed in the SPF record for the domain, it is discarded. Thus nobody can mask an e-mail address to make it appear as if you're sending spam messages. This technique is also termed email spoofing.
SPF Protection in Shared Hosting
The SPF protection option is available as standard with each shared hosting package that we supply and you can use it with ease in order to secure the emails for any domain name hosted in your account. The service is controlled from the Emails section of our advanced, yet easy to work with Hepsia Control Panel. What is needed to enable the protection is to type the IP of the email server and its hostname - mail.server.com, for example. Once the protection is active, only this server will be able to send emails from email addresses generated under the domain name that you've selected. Your e-mails can be handled by some other provider, but when we manage them in addition to your site, you may also enable the option for messages to be sent only if the domain has our MX records. This selection gives you greater protection as exclusively our server will be approved to send out messages from your mailboxes and you will have better control. If you have any questions or if you experience any kind of difficulties with this particular service, you will be able to contact our technical support crew anytime and they will give you a hand right away.
SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you can protect your email addresses by enabling the SPF security service for any domain hosted in your account with just a few mouse-clicks. This is done in the Emails section of our Hepsia Control Panel which comes with the semi-dedicated accounts and even when you have no previous practical experience with these issues, you will not have any kind of difficulties to enable the protection. The only things that you'll need to do is to select a domain from a drop-down list and then type the mail server hostname and IPv4 or IPv6 address. As soon as the updated record propagates, messages from your e-mail addresses will be sent globally only if they're sent from that specific server. When your email addresses are managed by our company and not by some third-party provider, you will also be able to activate an option for email messages to be sent only when the domain name features our MX records and the latter would be the most secure option. If you have any questions about thisfeature, you will be able to contact our technical support team 24/7.
