Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange info between a server and a client. Given that the information exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a third party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of controlling a web hosting account. The commands which can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the alternatives are limited because you will not have root access to the website hosting server, so you can just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They are all actions that are performed in the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a number of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
If you have a shared hosting account with our company and you want to handle your content remotely via SSH, you can get SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package does not come with this feature as standard, you could add it with several clicks via the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the Control Panel, you'll see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You may also select what password you would like to use, given that it doesn't have to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared a lot of Help articles in which you may find all of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting plan, as well as examples of how they're used. Furthermore, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client such as FileZilla, for instance.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to get SSH access to it with a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your package does not support this function by default, you will be able to include it effortlessly via the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you shall find the details which you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated anytime, if needed. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files via a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we provide. A complete list of the commands which you can carry out will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you may perform within your account and each one is accompanied by several examples of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
The VPS server solutions which we offer provide SSH access as standard, not as a paid upgrade or a feature that you have to activate. The moment your new server is prepared, you shall be able to connect and start working on your content through the login details that you have entered during the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials will be sent to you via e mail too. As your VPS will be isolated from the others on the physical server, there are no limitations regarding what you can or can't do using SSH. You'll be able to download, set up and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux hosting server, reboot the whole server or only a particular software component, and work with files, folders and databases without any restrictions. All you will need for this is a console or an SSH client on your end.
